Here's what's open and closed in Waterloo region this Thanksgiving weekend

K-W Oktoberfest is on this Thanksgiving long weekend, which means there are lots of activities taking place. But there are also closures, including municipal offices, arenas, libraries and community centres.

Waste pickup to take place as usual on Monday, transit to operate on holiday schedule

Here's a look at what services are available and what's open and closed in Waterloo region for the Thanksgiving weekend.

K-W Oktoberfest runs all weekend with various events. Part of King Street in downtown Kitchener is closed to traffic for Willkommen Platz.

Weber Street will be closed to traffic Monday morning as the Oktoberfest parade route starts at the corner of Weber Street E. and Frederick Street at 9:30 a.m., moves up Weber Street and finishes at Bridgeport Road in Waterloo around noon.

Grand River Transit will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday.

Regular curbside collection of garbage, blue box, green bin, yard waste and bulky items will go ahead on Monday. People are reminded to have their items at the curb by 7 a.m.

Region of Waterloo International Airport is open and operating on a regular schedule.

Regional museums open on Monday include:

  • Schneider Haus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Ken Seiling Region of Waterloo Museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • McDougall Cottage from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The following regional services are closed on Monday:

  • Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites are closed for residential drop-off.
  • All regional administrative offices (99 Regina in Waterloo, 150 Frederick in Kitchener, 150 Main in Cambridge, airport administrative offices).
  • Employment Services/Welcome Spaces (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 20 Weber) .
  • Region of Waterloo libraries.
  • Home Child Care offices.
  • Sunnyside Home reception and administration.
  • Sunnyside Wellness Centre.
  • Community Alzheimer Day programs in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. Overnight stay respite remains open.

Cambridge

City administrative offices are closed all weekend.

Community centres are open Saturday for regular hours, closed Sunday and Monday.

Pools W.G. Johnson Centre andJohn Dolson Centre are open Saturday regular hours, Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Monday.

Arenas are open Saturday and Sunday for regular hours, closed Monday.

Cambridge Public Library (formerly Idea Exchange) locations are open Saturday regular hours, closed Sunday and Monday.

Kitchener

City administrative offices are closed all weekend although city hall is open for K-W Oktoberfest events.

Community centres will be closed Sunday and Monday except three will be open on Sunday:

  • Huron is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Stanley Park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Centreville Chicopee is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Aud and community arenas will be open all weekend.

All indoor pools will be open regular hours Saturdayand Sunday. Nearly all will be closed on Monday except for Grand River Rec Complex which will be open from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Kitchener Public Library locations will be open regular hours on Saturday, closed on Sunday and Monday.

Doon Valley and Rockway golf courses are open for regular hours on Monday.

Waterloo

City administrative offices are closed all weekend.

All community centres are closed Monday.

RIM Park opens at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex programs are cancelled and the complex is closed on Monday.

Townships

Township officers are closed all weekend.

Other

The following are closed on Monday:

  • Malls and most grocery and retail stores.
  • Banks and other government offices.
  • LCBO.
  • The Beer Store.
  • There will be no mail delivery.
