Paris, Ont., man arrested after woman assaulted in Wellesley Township

A 50-year-old Paris, Ont., man has been arrested after a province-wide warrant was issued after a woman was assaulted in Wellesley Township on Tuesday. Police say a man armed with a knife arrived on a property near Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road around 11:30 a.m. ET and attempted to force a woman into a vehicle.

A 50-year-old Paris, Ont., man has been arrested after aprovince-wide warrant was issued as part of an investigation after awoman was assaulted in Wellesley Township on Tuesday.

Police say a man armed with a knife arrived at a property near Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road around 11:30 a.m.and attempted to force a woman into a vehicle.

Police said bystanders intervened, which allowed the woman to escape.

"The female managed to escapeand the male fled in a vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned," a release by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said on Wednesday.

The man was unknown to the woman, police said.

It is believed the man ran on foot into a wooded area. A hold and secure was issued for the area for five hours on Tuesday due to concerns for public safety.

Police warned the man wasconsidered armed and dangerous, and anyone who saw him was asked not to approach him and to call 911 immediately.

Police said late Wednesday that the suspect was located in the Niagara Region by a member of the public who recognized him.
