Pit bull 'viciously' attacks owner, 64, and dad, 90

Ontario Provincial Police say a 64-year-old woman had to be airlifted to hospital in London, Ont., to be treated for multiple bites to her arms and face after she was "suddenly" and "viciously" attacked by her four-year-old pit bull terrier.

'Extremely aggressive' dog 'dispatched' by police

Ontario Provincial Police say a 64-year-old woman had to be airlifted to hospital in London, Ont., to be treated for multiple bites to her arms and face after she was "suddenly" and "viciously" attacked by her four-year-old pit bull terrierin Grey Highlands, a rural community southeast of Owen Sound.

The woman was walking towards her vehicle at 12:38 p.m. on Wednesday, "when she was suddenly knocked down and viciously attacked by her dog," the OPP said in a news release issued Thursday.

The four-year-old male pit bull terrier also attackedthe woman's elderly father, who was sitting in the vehicle at time and went to his daughter's aid.

Police said the woman suffered multiple, serious bites to her arms and face and had to be airlifted to a London, Ont. hospital.

The woman's 90-year-old father also suffered a serious bite to his forearm, according to police, and was taken by paramedics to nearby hospital.

The OPP said police, along with local animal control officers attempted to bring the dog under control, but it continued to be extremely aggressive.

"The dog was dispatched by police for public safety," the OPP said.

The incident marks the second time in two weeks that a pit bull had to be put down following an attack that caused serious injuries.

Authorities in Ottawa euthanized a pit bull after it attacked a one-year-old girl when she tried to pet it inside her home.
