Pride flags will fly alongside Canadian flags at all schools in the Waterloo Region District School Board in June, which is Pride month in Ontario.

John Bryant, the director of education with the public school board, said in a statement the board wants to "create inclusive safe spaces"in all 121 elementary and high school locations within the board.

A Pride flag will also fly at the board's education centre on Ardelt Avenue in Kitchener.

"Raising the Pride flag demonstrates our commitment to supporting all of our students, staff, parents, caregivers and community members," said Bryant.

The board says many in the school community identify as members of the Rainbow or LGBT community and are part of 31 Gay-Straight Alliance clubs at the schools.
