Reduce water use by 10%, GRCA warns after dry spell

Hot, dry weather across Waterloo region, Guelph and Brantford has prompted the Grand River Conservation Authority to request people and businesses reduce their water use.

Some parts of the Grand River watershed have not recorded any rain since the last week of June, according to the GRCA.

Now, the Grand River Low Water Response Team has placed the area in "Level 1" condition, meaning businesses and people are asked to voluntarily reduce their water use by 10 per cent.

This includes municipalities, golf courses, water bottlers and farmers.

The GRCA said the most effective way for people to conserve water is to follow city bylaws about when to limit their outdoor watering of lawns and plants.

The GRCA said their reservoirs are within normal range for this time of year, but water levels will be monitored through the summer to make sure that "flow targets" can be met if dry conditions continue.
