Rod Regier appointed Waterloo Region's commissioner of planning

The Region of Waterloo has appointed former Kitchener city official Rod Regier as the regional Commissioner of Planning.

Worked in Economic Development with the City of Kitchener for 11 years

The Region of Waterloo has hired Rod Regier away from the City of Kitchener to fill the region'srole as Commissioner of Planning, Development and Legislative Services.

During his 11-year stint as Executive Director ofEconomic Planning,Regierwascredited with leading such projects as the King Street master plan and theCommunitech hub.

Regier admits he has a few butterflies in his stomach about the new role, butis excited to take on the new challenge with the region.

'We're making great progress'

Regier credits the many people involved in the effort to support the re-urbanization of the region.

"It's got a new regional official plan. We're making great progress on the implementation of the LRT project,"Regier said. "There's a broad consensus in the region about how we need to move forward to support the development of a sustainable urban place."

Regier, a University of Waterloo graduate, obtained a Master of Arts degree in Regional Planning and Resource Development.He's previously held positions with the City of Hamilton and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Among his new responsibilities, Regier will planfuture growth of the Region of Waterloo International Airport, the Region's museums and libraries, economic development. Plus, he will oversee the Regional Official Plan.

Regier replaces Rob Horne who took the job of Chief Administrative Officer in Stratford.
