Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning todayfor Waterloo region and Wellington county.

There's a chance of some mixed snow and rain overnight, but thefreezing rain isexpected to start Tuesday morning and last several hours before changing into rain in the afternoon.

Ontariansare warned to be cautious because hazardous winter travelling conditions are expected and there may be delays androad closures. The weather agency is also warning that if ice builds up it may cause tree branches to break, and there may be power outages as a result.

The national weather agency is predicting "significant precipitation," starting with freezing rain and lasting for "several hours before changing to rain in the afternoon."

According to Environment Canada, a low pressure area developing south of the border is forecast to deepen as it tracksnortheast towards southern Ontario early this week.

This weather system is expected to bring snow, then freezing rain and rain for southern Ontario in areas close to Lakes Erie and Ontario, while central and eastern Ontario could see accumulating snow and freezing rain.
