Kitchener veteran recounts D-Day memories

Veteran Thomas Plant, a Kitchener resident, relates his memories of D-Day, when he was charged with navigating a landing craft that unloaded allied troops onto a beach in Normandy.

Tens of thousands of allied troops crossed the English Channel 69 years ago today to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

Over 10,000 Canadian sailors took part in the historic landing that marked the beginning of the end of Second World War.

Kitchener's Thomas Plant was a navigator on one of the Canadian landing crafts.He spoke to his granddaughter, CBC's Amanda Grant, about his experiences during the war and on that fateful day.
