The Hip: Where to watch the Aug. 20 concert show locally

Saturday night live from Kingston, Ont., CBC is broadcasting the Tragically Hip concert.

Small screens, bigscreensand on radio the iconic Canadian band will be celebrated in homes as people watch and listen to the show on CBC, but there are also some events planned to bring people together to celebrate the band.

Waterloo

Waterloo Public Square 8 p.m. start

This event is free and will feature the concert on a giant screen which will be set up on the north side of the square near the train tracks. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site and this outdoor event will run rain or shine. The event is being sponsored by the City of Waterloo, UpTown Waterloo BIA, Princess Cinemas and BeerTown.

Kitchener

Apollo Cinema

Admission is free, but you do need to reserve tickets on thewebsite

Edelweiss Tavern

This 19+ show will include live music and food. You will need a ticket and proceeds are going to cancer research through the Grand Ride.

Bobby O'Brien's

A tailgate party, prizes and live entertainment will be part of this event, and the concert will be shown on the big screenoutside on the side of the CBC building overlooking the patio in downtown Kitchener.

State and Main restaurant

Borealis

Part of the proceeds from the night will be going to theGordDownieFund. Show will be on the big screen projector. Reservations recommended.

TWH Social

The show will be on all the screens in the restaurant and extra seating will be set up for the night. There will be a raffle of Hip merchandise purchased from one of the Toronto shows with proceeds going to to the Gord Downie Foundation. Follow them on Twitter for a chance to watch the show in a private room with 20 friends. The event is free, but reservations are recommended.

Rhapsody Barrel Bar

Following the livestreamof the concert, The Almost Hip tribute band will be playing on stage.

Cambridge

Churchill Park, 2000 Christopher Drive 8 p.m. start

A pre-show will feature local band, TheReklaws, at this free, family-friendly event. Food and soft drinks will be available to purchase at the concession stand in the DuncanMcIntosharena. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

State and Main restaurant

Guelph

Market Square 7:30 p.m. start

This free all-ages event will kick off with local bands and artists performing at 7:30 p.m. ahead of the broadcast at 8:30 p.m. People are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. If it rains, the event will move inside city hall. Volunteers from the Canadian Cancer Society, Wellington County Branch, will be onsite accepting financial donations.

Q-Ball Billiards and Bar

Donations will be accepted for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

Bookshelf Cinema

All proceeds go to the Sunnybrook Foundation.

Silence

All ages, licensed event. Donations will be accepted forthe Sunnybrook Foundation.

Other locations

Elora

As part of the Riverfest music festival, the concert will be shown under the roof at the Kitras Art Glass Pavilion at 8:30 p.m.Sing-a-longs and a few tears are anticipated.

Stratford

The Hub at 27 Marketplace 8 p.m.

Proceeds from this evening will go to the Perth office of the Canadian Cancer Society. Reserved seating can be booked through the restaurant.

At home

The concert will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will be shown on CBC across television, radio and digital platforms.
