Waterloo Region is inviting developers to submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to build the King-Victoria transit hub in downtown Kitchener.

The multi-million-dollar facility will be built on land between King, Duke, Waterloo and Victoria streets, bordering the existing railway tracks. The goal is to connect all forms of transit in the region through a single location. The mixed-use facility will also include space for retail, offices and residential.

Project Manager Ellen McGaghey said the RFQ phase of the project is a chance to reach out to the development community to see who is interested in working on the site. (Waterloo region photo)

Project manager and director of Facilities and Fleet Management, Ellen McGaghey told CBC'sThe Morning EditionPhase 1 of the project is a chance to reach out to the development community to see who is interested in working on the site.

"It's our indication of their capacity to do the work," said McGaghey. "It's not that they're telling us what they'll do, but just similar examples of work to say they'll be capable of doing it."

Interested developers have until the end of June to submit their RFQ. The region will announce short list this fall.

Ellen McGaghey says at that point the developers would be given specific parameters and hear the developers creative plans for the location.
