Voter turnout stagnant in Waterloo region, dips in Guelph

Overall voter turnout for this year's municipal elections decreased or hovered around the same numbers.

There was little change in voter turnout in most of Waterloo region in Monday's municipal election.

The highest turnout was in Waterloo with 34.22 per cent, but that was down slightly from 2014 when 35.93 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot.

Cambridge was the second highest voting turnout in the region with33.04 per cent, which is up from 29.89per cent in 2014.

Wellesley and Woolwichextended online and phone voting until 8 p.m. Tuesday night. The other townships had not reported voter turnout as of noon on Tuesday.

Kitchener

  • 2018 voter turnout: 28.22 per cent or 41,933 ballots cast out of 148,584 eligible voters.
  • 2014 voter turnout:29.94per cent, or 45,167 ballots cast out of 147,292 eligible voters.
  • 2010 turnout:27.41per cent, according to the city.
  • 2006 voter turnout:25.48per cent or 37,464 out of 147,042 eligible votes.

Waterloo

  • 2018 voter turnout: 34.22 per cent or 24,843 ballots cast out of 72,598 eligible voters.
  • 2014 voter turnout:35.93per centor 25,750 ballots castoutof 71,667 eligible voters.
  • 2010 voter turnout:41.16per centor 27,253 ballots castcast of 66,206 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:28.66per cent or 22,927 ballots cast out of79,997eligible voters.

Cambridge

  • 2018 voter turnout: 33.04 per cent or 28,292 ballots cast.
  • 2014 voter turnout:29.89per cent or 25,679ballots cast out of 85,922 eligible voters.
  • 2010 voter turnout:28.71per centor 23,924 ballots castout of 83,329 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:26.33per cent or 22,521ballots castout of 85,547 eligible voters.

Guelph

  • 2018 voter turnout: 37.16 percent, with 33,732 ballots cast out of 90,786 eligible voters. There was no online voting this year.
  • 2014 voter turnout:44.97percent or 38,933ballots cast out of 86,574 eligible voters. Guelph used online voting this year.
  • 2010 voter turnout:33.9percent or 28,072ballots cast out of 82,794eligible voters.

NorthDumfriestownship

  • 2018 voter turnout: Not yet reported.
  • 2014 voter turnout:39.63per cent or 3,037 ballots cast out of 7,663 eligible voters.
  • 2010 voter turnout:48.64per cent, or 3,441 ballots cast out of 7,075 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:26.81per cent, or 1,951 ballots cast out of7,276 eligible voters.

Wellesley township

  • 2018 voter turnout: Voting continues until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
  • 2014 voter turnout:29.3per cent, with a total of 7,658 eligible voters.
  • 2010 voter turnout:11.49per cent or 846 ballots cast out of 7,365 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:31.37per cent or 2,206 ballots cast out of7,033 eligible voters.

Wilmottownship

  • 2018 voter turnout: Not yet reported.
  • 2014 voter turnout:40.6per cent, or 6,115 ballots cast out of 15,095 eligible voters.
  • 2010 voter turnout:47.15per cent, or 6,782 ballots cast out of 14,384 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:24.7per cent, or 3,317 ballots cast out of 13,403eligible voters.

Woolwich township

  • 2018 voter turnout: Voting continues until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
  • 2014 voter turnout:36.9percent, 6,637and 17,985 eligible voters (unofficial).
  • 2010 voter turnout:36.26percent 6,089 ballots cast or16,794 eligible voters.
  • 2006 voter turnout:27.03percent or 4,205 ballots cast out of 15,559 eligible voters .
