Waterloo extends temporary patios until January 2022

Waterloo city council has agreed to allow businesses to keep their outdoor and sidewalk patios open longer.

Council voted Monday night to extend theSupport our Local Economic Recovery (SOLER) initiative and the uptown side walk patio programto January 2022. The move will allow patios to remain open until snow clearingofsidewalks starts.

The programs allowforoutdoors patios city-wideand expanded sidewalk patios in the uptown area. It was initiallylaunched to support businesses through the pandemic.

Uptown sidewalk patio licenses were originally set to expire Oct.15, whilethe SOLER program was set to expireatthe endof2020.

So far this year, the city hasissued24 SOLER licenses and approvedsix uptown sidewalk patios, according to the release.
