Waterloo region reports 80 new cases of COVID-19 Monday

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and there were two more deaths of people with the illness.

741 active cases with 40 people in hospital and 10 in ICU

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

That brings the total number of new cases so far in January to 2,951 and 9,027 sincelast March.

There were two new deaths of people with the virus reported on Monday as well. They were two women in their 90s.

The region reported 741 active cases with 40 people in hospital and 10 people in the intensive care unit. Of all the cases in the region, 8,092, or 89 per cent, of all cases have been marked as resolved.

The region's testing partners have completed more than 311,000 tests since March 2020.

The province reported another 1,958 cases of COVID-19on Monday.

39 active outbreaks

There are 39 active outbreaks in the region including 17 in long-term care and retirement homes.

The other outbreaks include:

  • One at food processor Conestoga Meats with 161 cases.
  • Five in congregate settings: One with 20 cases, one with 10 cases, one with four cases, one with three cases and one with two cases.
  • Four at hospitals: Two at Grand River Hospital and two at St. Mary's General Hospital.
  • Three at manufacturing workplaces: One with 28 cases, one with five cases and one with two cases.
  • Two in offices: One with six cases, one with three cases.
  • Two in Waterloo Region District School Board programs: One with three cases, one with two cases. The board has not named the schools where these outbreaks have taken place.
  • One at a child care centre with nine cases.
  • One at a retail store with four cases.
  • One at a trades workplace with four cases.
  • One in a warehouse with three cases.
