Waterloo region records 2nd highest number of new cases in a month in October

Waterloo region has recorded the second highest number of new cases in a month in October.

Seven new cases were reported Monday by Region of Waterloo Public Health. October now has 361 new cases, surpassing May which had 354. April remains the month with the most number of new cases when 633 were reported.

The region says there are 107 active cases with seven people in hospital. There have been 120 COVID-related deaths in the region, a number that has remained the same for more than two months.

There are five active outbreaks including:

• Two at long-term care or retirement homes.
• One at a before and after school care program within the Waterloo Region District School Board where this is one case.
• One at an energy and utility workplace where there are two cases.
• One connected to an event held at a place of worship linked to 18 cases.

The outbreak at Wilfrid Laurier University has been declared over as of Sunday. That outbreak saw 19 cases and was connected to an off-campus study group.

More than 164,000 tests have been done by testing partnersin the region this year.
