With 75 cases of COVID-19, new cases in September top August total in Waterloo region

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the region has hit 75 in September, topping the total number of cases in all of August, which was 68.

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 11 new cases on Monday. There were seven cases reported on Saturday and Sunday as well.

The largest increases in cases were people in the following age groups:

• 10 to 19.
• 20 to 29.
• 40 to 49.

The news comes as the province reported 313 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday the highest daily case count since early June.

The region reports there are 68 active cases of the virus. No one is listed as being in hospital with the coronavirus.

There is one outbreak at a long-term care home in Waterloo. The number of people who have died from COVID-19 in the region stands at 120.

In terms of testing, the region says more than 74,000 tests have been completed. Grand River Hospital has seen in increase in demand at the drive-thru testing facility at137 Glasgow Street in Kitchener.

The drive-thru site saw a record 645 tests done last Thursday. Subsequent days saw:

• 573 tests completed on Friday.
• 484 tests completed on Saturday.
• 553 tests completed on Sunday.

The region says there have been 1,528 positive cases of COVID-19 in the region since March. Of those,1,340, or 88 per cent, have been marked as resolved.
