- New federal riding causing a stir in Cambridge
The neighbouring ridings of Kitchener-Conestoga, Cambridge and Kitchener Centre have been redrawn and the new riding is called KitchenerSouth-Hespeler.
The province announced it would realign the electoral boundaries to more equally distribute the voter population in the area. It's one of 15 new ridings in southern Ontario, all in urban areas, bringing the total number of seats in the provincial legislatureto 122.
If the name Kitchener South-Hespelersounds familiar, that's because it's the same name as a riding created in that area by the federal government in 2015.
It's common for the province to follow in the footsteps of the federal government when the latter changes electoral boundaries.
