More than 73K rides taken ION LRT in opening weekend, region says

There were more than 73,000 trips on the ION LRT on opening weekend, the Region of Waterloo says.

Saturday saw the highest number with nearly 30,000 riders

There were more than 73,000 trips on the ION LRT during opening weekend, the Region of Waterloo says.

Friday's service ran for eight hours and saw more than 21,500 people board the LRT.

Saturday and Sunday the service ran for 12 hours each day. On Saturday there were more than 29,500 passengers and on Sunday, there were more than 22,000 people who got on the LRT.

The regular ION LRTservice launched on Monday. Daily service runs from 4:36 a.m. with a train starting at the Research and Technology station in Waterloo. Service ends at 1:45 a.m. at the Conestoga Mall station.
