Where and how to vote in the municipal election in Waterloo region

How you cast a ballot in the Oct. 22 municipal election will depend on where you live in Waterloo region.

Four municipalities in Waterloo region will have online and phone voting in the Oct. 22 election

In three municipalities in Waterloo region North Dumfries, Wellesley and Woolwich voters will not be casting paper ballots for the Oct. 22 municipal election. Instead, they can vote online or by phone. Cambridge residents have the option of voting online, by phone or in person. In Kitchener, Waterloo and Wilmot, voters will head to local polling stations. How you vote in this year's municipal election depends on where you live in Waterloo region.

Some parts of the region are using internet and phone voting while others will be using traditional paper ballots at polling stations.

Here's where and how people around the region will be voting and where voters can find out more information.

Online and phone voting

North Dumfries, Wellesley and Woolwich are using online and phone voting exclusively.

The voting period runs from Oct. 9 until 8 p.m. on Oct. 22.

In Cambridge, voters have the option to vote online if they wish. The voting period runs from 10 a.m. on Oct. 9 to 7:59 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Advanced polls

Cambridge is also offering voters the chance to go to traditional polling stations, as is Kitchener, Waterloo and Wilmot.

When and where advanced polls will be held depends on your municipality.

Cambridge:

  • Oct. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall.
  • Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hespeler Arena and Preston Auditorium, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall.
  • Oct. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall.
  • Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hespeler Arena and Preston Auditorium, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall.

Kitchener:

Advanced polls are Oct. 10 to 13 at one of five locations:

  • Kitchener City Hall.
  • Country Hills Community Centre.
  • Forest Heights Community Centre.
  • Sportsworld Arena.
  • Stanley Park Community centre.

The advanced polls are open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 to 12, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Waterloo

  • Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waterloo City Centre.
  • Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Waterloo City Centre.
  • Oct. 10 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at RIM Park.
  • Oct. 11 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
  • Oct. 13 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Waterloo Public Library John Harper Branch.

Wilmot

  • Oct. 6 at the Wilmot Recreation Complex from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Oct. 10 at the Township of Wilmot Administrative Complex from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voter Help Centres

The municipalities with online and phone voting have set up voter help centres for people who require more information.

North Dumfries Community Complex will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Oct. 9 to Oct. 22 (including weekends).

Clyde-Scott Women's Institute, 1459 Sheffield Rd., Cambridge, will be open Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Township of Wellesley administration office or call the voter help line at 519-699-3968.

Woolwich Municipal Office will be open on Oct. 9 and Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Woolwich Memorial Centre Oct. 9 to Oct. 21 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Breslau Community Centre October 9, 12, 15 and 19 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Oct. 13, 14, 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

St. Jacob's Fire Station Oct. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Woolwich, voters can also call the Voter Help Line at 519-669-6049.

Staff will also be setting up institutional and retirement home election help centres on Oct. 22.

Election Day

Online and phone voters have until 8 p.m. to cast a ballot (but 7:59 p.m. for people in Cambridge).

Polling locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
