Dark SUV seen fleeing scene of Waterloo shooting Friday morning

A dark coloured SUV with "multiple occupants" was seen fleeing the area of a shooting in Waterloo Friday morning, police say.

Now, investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area of King Street N., and University Avenue E., around 2 a.m. Friday morning, and who might have dashcamfootage from between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., to come forward.

Officers are canvassing the area for video,as part of the investigation.

A 26-year-old man from the Toronto area was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries after the shooting in a plaza near University and King. Two women were also treated for minor injuries.

Police say it was a targeted shooting.

Gunfire nearby

On Saturday around 3:08 a.m., police also investigated reports of gunfire at the King Street N. and Hickory Street area, a block north of Friday's shooting.

In a tweet, Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky thanked police for their efforts to locate those responsible for two weekend shootings in the city.

"Our safe community is concerned about the disturbing late-night incidents this weekend," he wrote.

The two investigations come days after a woman was shot and killed in Cambridge.

Helen Schaller, 58, was shot in the area of King Street E., near Church Street and Westminster Drive in Preston around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. She was pronounced dead in hospital. Police continue to investigate her death and have released a photo of a red car seen leaving the area.
