Waterloo police officer facing assault charges in off-duty incidents

London Police investigators have charged a 17-year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service in connection to an off-duty matter.

A 17-year member of the Waterloo Regional Police is facing several assault charges relatingto off-duty incidents after an investigation by London Police.

Police say the incidents allegedly happened between May 2013 and March 2015, and Waterloo Regional Police were informed of the allegations in late 2016.

"It's a situation where we are accountable and transparent too," said WRPSInsp. MikeHaffner.

"We took the proper steps to have [allegations] investigated to protect the victim aswe would with any other allegation of assault."

Apatrol officer with theWRPSNorth Divisionhas been charged six counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of sexual assault.

While the investigation continues, the officer has been suspended with pay and is schedule to appear in court on Feb. 27 in London.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service ProfessionalStandards Branch will also a review the case.
