Police take down suspect on e-scooter in 'high-risk' drug trafficking arrest in Kitchener

A 30-year-old Kitchener man is in custody after what police are calling a "high-risk" arrest Wednesday evening in the area of Traynor Avenue and Wilson Avenue.

Arrest took place near Traynor and Wilson avenues on Wednesday at around 5 p.m.

Police in Kitchener arrested a 30-year-old suspect Wednesday evening in what they're calling a "high-risk" arrest. In this dashcam video, police can be seen cutting off traffic in a residential street, causing the suspect on an e-scooter to fall on the road. Several officers in tactical gear and with guns are seen surrounding the man, who police say was suspected to have a firearm. The man faces several charges including drug trafficking.

A 30-year-old Kitchener, Ont.,man is in custody after what police are calling a "high-risk" arrest.

It happened around 5 p.m. in the area of Traynor Avenue and Wilson Avenue on Wednesday. Officers arrested the man who was believed to have a gun.

"The suspect was believed to be in possession of a firearm and, to ensure public and officer safety, a high-risk arrest was initiated," police spokesperson Cherri Greeno confirmed.

In a dashcam video of the arrest posted to Facebook and shared with CBC News, two police vans can be seen swerving around a car on a residential street.

They drive in front of a man on an e-scooter, cutting him off and causing him to fall onto the road. What looks to be approximately nine police officers in tactical gear and holding guns then run out of the vans to arrest the man on the e-scooter.

The man was charged with five counts of breaching a court order, possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and multiple weapon-related charges.

"The charges in the case are based on a lengthy investigation into the trafficking of illicit drugs in our community," police said in a media release.
