1 new death from COVID-19 in London area as cases near 200 mark

The number of COVID-19 cases in London is nearing the 200 mark, after the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported another death in the region and another 14 cases Saturday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in London is nearing the 200 mark, after the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported another death in the region and another 14 cases Saturday.

That means there have been a total of 197 cases in the region, and a total of nine deaths.

A spokesperson for the MLHU said the new death was a woman in her 50s, who had been living in hospice care.

Health officials reported 13 new cases on Friday, and eight new cases and a death on Thursday.

Across the province, the numbers also rose. The government said Saturdaythat 253 people have died of the virus in Ontario. A total of 2,858 people in the province have recovered, the province said.

According to CBC tallies, Ontariohas seen 274deaths.

Cases across the region

Huron Perth Public Health reported a total of 31 cases of COVID-19 and one death in the region on Saturday. One of those cases, the health unit said, is a city of Stratford transit driver.

The driver became sick on April 1 and began self-isolating at home, Huron Perth Public Health said in a statement.

Grey Bruce Public Health reported two new cases on Saturday, bringing the region's total to 35.

Two women, one in her 50s and one in her 60s, are isolated, the health unit said in an update.

Health officials in that region have also started to provide location data for cases.
