'We remain far apart': Union updates talks to end CAMI strike

The union representing2,800 striking workers at General Motor's CAMI plant in Ingersollsays the two sides remain far aparton "key issues".

In a statement posted Thursday on its website, Unifor said it had been meeting daily with the companysince Sept. 27. The union reports that it has also been dealing directly with representatives at GM's headquarters in Detroit.

"We have worked through a lot of the contract languageduring this period," said Unifor. "We remain far apart on economics and job security.

"[We]await a response from GM Detroit on these outstanding issues".

Break from negotiations

The company and the union have agreed to take a break over the Thanksgiving long weekend. The two sides will reconvene on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

"In the event GM Detroit responds sooner we have made it clear that the Master Bargaining Committee, and our Unifor National Representatives, are available to meet at a moments notice." said Uniforin its online update.
