'Devious Licks' TikTok challenge hits Huron County

A social media trend that sees youth post a video ofthemselves causing mischief and damage has caught the attention ofpolice after a public washroom in Goderich, Ont., was ransacked last weekend.

Dubbed "Devious Licks," young people are posting vandalism on popular platforms, like TikTok, for views, likes and shares. Huron County OPP are calling the actions "mindless" and are warning criminal charges mightbe pending.

"These types of challenges are going to land you in trouble whether it be a school suspension, damage to your online reputation or potential criminal charges," said Jamie Stanley, a community safety officer with Huron County OPP.

"Parents, if you have a student at home that is on social media and is following these trends you may want to have a conversation with your child about the implications of getting involved in something like this."

Police believe the social media challenge is behind an incident that saw damage to a public washroom in Bannister Park in Goderichsometime overnight between Saturday and Sunday last weekend.

The total damage is estimated to be about $3,000. Police also say picnic tables were damaged, a nearby pavilion was tagged withgraffitiand signs were stolen.

Police say there have been other recent incidents at Huron County elementary and high schools where bathrooms were damaged.
