Fanshawe College students can expect more online course work throughout the summer and into the fall, as the school follows the lead of other post-secondary institutions looking to navigate pandemic rules.

The college announced Tuesday that it would remain closed for the coming months, offering a virtual summer semester.

The fall semester will be a mix of online and in-person course work for full-time students, a model Western University is also adopting.

"Physical distancing measures and keeping our employees and students safe are at the core of our planning," said FanshaweCollege president Peter Devlinin a statement.

"We are building scenarios that would allow us to bring students onto campus when it is required while continuingto provide course delivery online where possible."

In-class time for some students

Some college students are still finishing the winter semester, many with placements and lab work that must be completed.

Fanshawe said it intends for those students to return forin-person work starting July 20, for a two-week period. Some of theprograms included areaircraft maintenance, dental hygiene, early childhood education, fire safety systems, personal support worker and respiratory therapy, among others.

As for students enrolled in the summer semester who require in-person course work,Fanshawe said those course are deferred until the fall.
