Inquest to be held into the deaths of 3 London inmates

A coroner's inquest will be held into the deaths of three London inmates, two of which died of apparent drug overdoses while in custody at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre.

Two of the three men who are the subject of the joint inquest by the province, Justin Thompson, 27,and Murray Davis, 24, died of apparent overdoses inside the jail in 2016and 2017respectively. Reports at the time indicate Floyd Deleary, a notorious criminal, was found suffering from "medical distress" in his cell, but died of natural causes in 2015.

The announcement from the Ontario Coroner was made Tuesday, five days after seven inmates overdosedat the London jail within minutes of each other and had to be rushed to hospital.

Brent Ross, a spokesman for the Ontario Ministry of Community Services and Corrections said Tuesday that all seven inmates have since been released from hospital and returned to the jail.

An inquest is mandatory under the Ontario Coroner's Act anytime an inmate dies in the custody of the province.
