London man charged after elderly woman stabbed while walking dog

A 32-year-old London man is in custody after a 78-year-old woman was stabbed while walking her dog on Monday morning.

A London, Ont., man is in custody after a 78-year-old woman was stabbed Monday morning in the city's east end.

According to police, thewoman was walking herdog in the 1200 block of Brydges Street, west of Highbury Avenue, when an unknown man approached her and pushed her to the ground. Police said the womanwas then stabbed multiple times before the suspect fled from the area.

The victim and man were not known to each other.

Police said the womanmade it back toher home where a family member contacted emergency services. Paramedicstook her to the hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police located and arrested a 32-year-old man several hours later, whohas been charged with aggravated assault, failure to comply with a release order and breach of probation.

The accused remains in custody and is set to appear in London court at a later date.
