London police have fined eight young adults in relation to two separate house parties on Saturday afternoon.

The tenants were each fined about $1,130 after beingissued a provincial offence noticefor hosting a nuisance party.

Earlier in the day, police fined two 20-year-old tenants living in a home on Patricia Street after hosting a backyard party with about 150 people.

Police later attended a home on John Street, where up to 350 people were gathered.

Officers fined six 19-year-old men, who were tenants of the home.

Police are reminding people that an owner, occupant or tenant could be fined up to $25,000 for hosting a nuisance party.

New bylaw

The city's new nuisance bylaw was put in place in August in an effort to curb large, unsanctioned student parties.

It was implemented after about 20,000 students flooded the notorious Broughdale Avenue for Fake Homecoming last fall. This year's event is slated for Sept. 28.

Western officials recently tweaked its student code of conduct to ensure students are being held accountable for their behaviour during off-campus, unsanctioned street parties.
