What's open and closed and what to do in London this Thanksgiving weekend

Thanksgiving Day falls on Oct. 14 this year. It's a public holiday in Ontario, which means some businesses will be closed or operating on reduced hours. Here's a rundown of what's open and closed, and of what families can do with their special time together.

Thanksgiving Day falls on Oct. 14 this year. It's a public holiday in Ontario, which meanssome businesses will be closed or operating on reduced hours. Here's a rundown of what's open and closed, and of what families can do with their special time together.

Shopping:

Masonville and White Oaks malls will both be closed Monday.

Most major grocery story chains will be closed on Monday.

Alcohol:

LCBOlocations will be closed on the holiday. Most Beer Store outlets are closed as well. Some Wine Rack locations are open.

Transit:

The London Transit Commission is running on a holiday schedule.Holiday schedules are available on the Routes & Schedules page. The downtown ticket office is closed on Monday, but the Highbury Avenue location will beopen.

Banks:

The following banks are closed:

  • Royal Bank of Canada
  • BMO
  • TD Bank
  • CIBC
  • Scotiabank
  • National Bank

City and government services:

Garbage collection is cancelled on Monday. Regular collection shifts by one day. Confused? Here's theschedule.

All government offices, including Service Ontairo and City Hall services, are closed on Monday.

Things to Do:

Check out the fall colours from London City Hall's observation deck. The top floor overlooking Victoria Park is openSaturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. Reserve your spot here.

Hike through the city's trails with a guide at Meadowlilly, Kains Woods or Kilally Meadows. There's hikes for families with small children or youth explorers. Columbia Sportswear is the sponsor organizer and you can book here.
