London's police chief reached out to the OPP in August to begin an investigation involving a member of the London police service.

On Thursday, the OPP said multiple charges had been laid against a 47-year-old officer. The charges are:

  • breach of trust
  • obstruction of justice
  • conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

"While I am not able to comment on the details of the investigation, I can say the allegations, if proven, are very serious and contrary to what is expected of all of our employees, sworn and civilian alike," said police chief John Pare in a written statement Thursday.

He went on to address the fact that two officers have been charged in a short period of time.

On November 23 a 41-year-old officer was charged with sexual assault in relation to an off-duty incident.

"I want to assure Londoners that I expect our officers to adhere to both the law and to a higher ethical standard. In those rare cases when officers do not live up to that standard, we do, and will continue to, take action."

Both officers are suspended with pay.

The two officers will appears in court in January, at different times.
