CAMI negotiations: why UNIFOR could have the upper-hand

Workers at General Motors'CAMIplant in Ingersoll are on strike over job security concerns and future investment.

Unifor, the union representing auto workers, is looking for a commitment from the auto makerthat designates the CAMIplant as the lead producer of the Chevrolet Equinox.

In an interview with CBC Radio'sAfternoon Drive, Automotive News Canada journalist Greg Layson said Uniformight have the upper hand.

"Unifor is in a pretty strong position right now," Layson told hostChris dela Torre.

"(GM) invested $800 million in the plant for this new vehicle, (and) it's one of the hottest selling vehicles in North America. So if you're Unifor, it seems like you've got a lot of cards to play and that you've backed GM into a corner."
