Man once acquitted in homicide over lost cellphone now charged in drug bust

A man acquitted in September in the shooting death of an 18-year-old man has now been charged with drug possession as part of a police drugs and guns sweep.

Less than seven months after he was acquitted in the shooting death of an 18-year-old Brampton man,Mohamed Sail, 27, has been charged with drug trafficking.

Sail is one of seven people arrested in a guns and gangs sweep by London police, the RCMP and the OPP on Thursday.

He is charged with three counts of drug possession.

The arrests were made after police executed search warrants at multiple addresses in London.

Police seized weapons, including a sawed-off shotgun along with cocaine, oxycodone and cash.

Others arrested were charged with various firearms and drug offences.

Sail last made news in September when he walked free after a jury found him not-guilty in the shooting death of Jeremy Cook,an 18-year-old carpenter's apprentice from Brampton.

Cook died on June 14, 2015, after he confronted Sail, and another manMuhabSultan, about his lost iPhone. After the confrontation in a McDonald's parking lot nearHighbury and Cheapside, Sultan and Sail sped away in a Mazda with Cook clinging to the side of the car.

Cook was shot in a parking lot a short distance away.

Sail turned himself in to police a few days later.
