Nazem Kadri Foundation heads to Humbolt for Broncos home opener

The Nazem KadriFoundation will be heading to Humboldt, Sask. to watch the new Broncos home opener Wednesday.

The London, Ont. charity responded to the tragic bus crash in April by teaming up with the Canadian Brewhouseand Islamic Relief to raise$50,000 to support victimsfamilies.

Nazem Kadri, who grew up in London, playsfor the Toronto Maple Leafs and is a former London Knight.

"Hockey families go through a lot. Early morning practices, late night games and non-stop traveling. It's a part of hockey life." said Kadriin a statement.

"When the bus crash took place I was shocked."

TheSaskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Humboldt Broncos were travellingtoNipawin, Sask.for a playoff game on Apr. 6 when their bus was struck by a transport truck. Sixteen players, staff and members of the media lost their lives.

Representatives from thefoundation will take in the game andmeet with some of the families who lost loved ones.

"What we really wanted to do was talk to who we can and really help them out," said TarekIbrahim, spokesperson for the NazemKadriFoundation.

"We didn't want to just give money and walk away. We want to be there for the people and be there for the families directly. We want to do the best we can from a human perspective and from a hockey family perspective."

The Broncos will face off against theNipawinHawks at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humbolt, Sask. at 7:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
