Toronto lawyer accused in St Thomas baseball bat attack to spend another weekend in jail

The Toronto injury lawyer accused of assaulting a St Thomas family with a baseball bat amid shouts of terrorists and ISIS will spend another weekend in jail until his next court appearance on Monday.

Mark Phillips, 36,appeared in a St Thomascourt Friday via video link from the ElginMiddlesexDetention Centre.

There is a publication ban on the evidence at the hearing.

The court learned that Phillips has retainedhigh-profile Toronto defence lawyer Steven Skurkato represent him.

Phillips is the great grandson of former Toronto Mayor Nathan Phillips.

He is charged with aggravated assault and three counts of assault with a weapon.
