Mayoral candidate Brian Bowman had chickens in his backyard growing up in Charleswood, likes the rock group Van Halen and makes his own home-made spinach pasta.

He voted for Sam Katz in the last civic election and said he has been 'disappointed.'

Those are among the things the lawyer talked about on CBC's Information Radio with Marcy Markusa Friday morning.

On the more serious issue of his multi-billion dollar promise to finish all of the city's bus rapid transit routes by 2030, Bowman said it's a question of showing leadership.

"The biggest obstacle to finishing the second phase of bus rapid transit is city hall itself," he told CBC.

"People are looking for economic opportunities in Winnipeg and if we want to grow up we need to have the political leadership and capacity to chart those grounds. The plans are there. I want to see it through. And I'm tired of just hearing about the politics of it. People are flip flopping on it. It's like watching a gong show."
