Alyx Delaloye celebrates cancer-free diagnosis with the Winnipeg Jets

When Alyx Delaloyle went in for her final round of leukemia treatments last month she had the support of the Winnipeg Jets in the room with her.

The seven-year-old girl stole the hearts of the NHL players after she was captured oncamera holding up a sign with her "chemo by day, Jets by night" mantra at a Jets game.

On Friday she received some great news she's now cancer free.

"We thank our lucky stars that our daughter is with us today. It's emotional and really hard to put it into words," her mother, Jody Delaloye, said.

"It's a really unbelievable how many people actually care about my daughter, who they never met and they don't even know who she is," Delaloye said.

"It's just amazing that that many people will look out for her, care for her and just pray for her. It means the world to me and my whole family."

After appearing on the MTS CentreJumbotron holding her poster, Alyxmade headlines and her story was shared thousands of times on social media. She was honoured at the Women of Distinction awards and has been a part of several fundraising events.

Some of the Jets got to know the little girl over the past year. So, when it came time for Alyx's last treatment, Delaloye sent a message to a few of the players to let them know.

On Oct. 22, when Alyx was at the Cancer Care Manitoba Centre, Mark Stuart, Blake Wheeler, Adam Lowry, Michael Hutchinson Patrik Laine and three other players came to give the young girl support.

"That was really cool," Delaloye said. "Her face is like lit right up. She was so excited."

Delaloye said she still has concerns about her daughter's health and she's not sure if the new prognosis has sunk in but the family is excited for the future.

"We just live day by day and pray that she stays healthy. We are just trying to get back to a new normal," she said.
