Arrest made in fatal Winnipeg crash

Police have arrested a teen driver after one person was killed and two others were critically injured in a devastating two-car crash in Winnipeg early Sunday.

Police have arrested a teen driver after one personwas killedand two others were critically injured in adevastatingtwo-carcrash in Winnipeg early Sunday.

A westboundChevrolet Cavalierslammed into a southboundPontiacSunfiresedan atSt. Mary's Road and Bishop Grandin Boulevard at 2:55 a.m. CT, police said.

The person who was killed was in theSunfire, which was carrying five people, police said.

Police have not released the name, age or gender of the person who died, but saidtwo other unidentified people remain in hospital in critical condition after beingtaken there by ambulance.

The other two people ridingin theSunfire were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old girl behind the wheel of theCavalier is facing a number of charges and remains in custody. Police didn't specify what charges she is facing.

Excessive speed and alcohol may have contributedto the collision, police said.

Bishop Grandin between St. Mary's and Dakota Street remained closed throughout Sunday morning. Police were asking motorists to avoid the area.

They're also asking anyone with information, or who may have seen the crash, to call police at 204-986-6271.
