An arrest has been made in the shooting death of Winnipegger John Felix.

Derek Davin Merrick, 19, ischarged with second-degree murderand remains inpolice custody.

The body of Felix, 21, was found in a yard between two houses in the 200 block of Balmoral Street on March 31, 2012.

Family members at the time told CBC News that Felix was in an apartment buildingwhen he may havegone outside to complete a drug deal for someone else.

His body was found across the street hours later.

Felix had just moved back to Winnipeg from B.C. and had dreams not only of modelling and acting, but of enlisting in the military and attending university, according to family members.

They insist he wasn't involved in gangs, though he was wearing a gang-related shirt at the time of his death.

Family members said Felix's father was a gang member and many of the peopleFelix grew up with have gang affiliations.

But those who knew Felix well saidhe was never a gang member himself.
