Levels to rise on Assiniboine as province releases more water at Shellmouth Dam

Levels are expected to rise on the Assiniboine River west of Winnipeg this weekas the province releases more water from the Shellmouth Reservoir.

Last week, the province increased waterflowsat the Shellmouth Dam from1,900 cubic feet per second (CFS) to 3,000 CFS to help lower rising levels at the reservoir.

The province will be increasing outflows again Tuesday by 500 CFS, which theHydrologic Forecast Centre of Manitobaestimates will raiselevels on theAssiniboinebetween two and three feet.

Low-lying properties and agriculturallandalong the river, from thereservoir south toSt.Lazare, Man., could be affected by flooding, the province said.

Water is expected to crest between Brandon and the Shellmouth Dam in the first week of May.
