A Brandon man has been charged with attempted murder following a fight in an apartment last Wednesday that ended with a gun being fired.

Police said they were looking for the 27-year-old Brandon man after the fight. They say he went to the apartment with a woman and got into an argument with a tenant. The man pulled out what's believed to be a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle and fired it at the tenant, police said.

The tenant used a chair to defend himself from the attack and tried to force the man out of the apartment. The shot hit the chair and then a wall in the home.

Police arrested the man Monday afternoon in the north end of Brandon. After his arrest, police say they learned he had beaten his girlfriend by punching and kicking her.

They also say methamphetamine was found in the man's underwearafter he wastaken to the Brandon Correctional Centre.

The 27-year-oldwas due in provincial court on Tuesday and faces a number of charges including pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, careless use of a firearm, domestic assault and possession of methamphetamine.
