Blue Bombers hire Avon Cobourne as running backs coach

Former CFL all-star running back Avon Cobourne has been added to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' coaching staff.

Cobourne becomes the fifth former 'Rider to join the Blue and Gold for the 2016 season

Former CFL all-star running back Avon Cobourne has been added to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' coaching staff.

A two-time Grey Cup champ(2009, 2010) and Most Outstanding Player of the 2009 Grey Cup,Cobourne joins Winnipeg after spending the past two seasons in the same coaching role with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Cobourne entered the coaching ranks in 2014 after a seven-year CFL playingcareer that included time with theMontreal Alouettes andHamilton Tiger-Cats. Prior to his CFL career,Cobourneplayed in the NFL with theDetroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.

He rushed for 4,999 yards and 37 touchdowns on 919 carries throughout his CFL career, while also hauling in 276 receptions for 2,510 yards and seven touchdowns.

He is a three time CFL east division all-star (2008, 2009, 2012) and league all-star (2009).

Cobournebecomes the fifth former 'Rider to join the Blue and Gold for the 2016 season.

Ex-Saskatchewan players that will besuiting up for the Bombers this year include receivers WestonDressler and Ryan Smith, anddefensive back Macho Harris.

As well, the Bombers recently signeddefensive tackle Keith Shologan, who played in Ottawa the past two season but was with the 'Ridersfrom 2008-2013.
