Winnipeg police look for man after armed robberies along bike path

A man has been arrested and police are looking for another they say was involved in a string of armed robberies along a Winnipeg bicycle path from Sept. 26 to Oct.1.

A man has been arrested and police are looking for another they say was involved in a string of armed robberies along a Winnipeg bicycle path from Sept. 26 to Oct.1.

The first robbery was around 6:30 a.m., when a24-year-old manwas walking along the path, which runsparallel to Fermor Avenuebetween St. Anne's Road and Archibald Street. He wasapproached by a man holding a weapon, then robbed and assaulted but not injured, police said in a news release on Monday.

About 10 minutes later,a59-year-old man cycling thepath near Archibald wasconfronted by a man holdinga weapon. He was robbed but not injured, police said.

On Oct.1, around6:20 a.m., a51-year-old man was cycling thepath near Archibald when he was confronted bytwo men walking towardhim from the opposite direction. He was assaulted and robbed and, as in the other incidents, one of the men was armed with a weapon, police said.

The 51-year-old suffered a number of injuries but none that required medical attention.

OnOct. 5, police arrested a 23-year-old man onAutumnwood Drive, near Cottonwood Road. He faces a charge of armed robbery.

A second man, identified by police as Allen James Aitken, 45, is still being sought.

He is described as heavy-set, weighingaround 235 pounds and standing about six feet tall. He has short brown hair and blue eyes.
