Some Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans aren't happy about the club's decision tofire head coach Paul LaPolice on Saturday.

General Manager Joe Mack cited a lack of improvement in the offence, undisciplined play and a losing record as factors in his decision.

Bomber fan Erwin Hildebrandt said he was shocked LaPolice was sent packing.

"You know I knew there were rumours. I thought the last two games they played really well," he told CBC.

Bomber fan Maureen Quinsey says the decision was made too soon.

"They have to work on penalties", she said. "But, all in all, they did pretty well and I think they should give the guy a chance."

But other fans agree LaPolice had to go.

"We want performance but unfortunately, it wasn't happening," said one.

Defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke was named as the new head coach Saturday afternoon.

Burke said he's hoping to help take the team in a new direction.

"I think you'll see some changes on how we do things in practice," he said.

"Make it shorter and a little more intense and a lot more competitive, (and) hopefully that translates to the way we play on game day," he added.

Paul LaPolice thanked his supporters on Twitter, saying he disagrees with the decision "110 per cent" and that he has loved every minute being the head coach of the Bombers.

He laterissued a full statementon Monday.
