Boys reunited after crash that killed parents

Four of the five Dubois brothers, whose parents were killed in a highway crash on Nov. 21, have been reunited in Winnipeg.

Marcel and Brenda Dubois, both 38, died after their minivan was struck head-on by a car about one kilometre east of Saltcoats, Sask.

The 17-year-old from Yorkton, Sask., who was driving the car that struck the minivan was also killed. The crash occurred when she attempted to pass another vehicle, RCMP said.

Four of the Dubois sons were also in the minivan. Two of them, a 16-year-old and a nine-year-old, were taken to hospital in Yorkton for treatment and later released.

A 13-year-old suffered a brain injury and a 14-year-old suffered a broken back and is paralyzed from the waist down. They were airlifted to hospital in Regina.

The 13-year-old has been released from hospital and is back in the family's northeast Winnipeg home.

The 14-year-old, while not yet in the family home, is back in his hometown after being transferred to a Winnipeg hospital.

"They came home over the weekend and they're all together [in the same city]," said family friend Coreen Goodchild.

The eldest brother, 19-year-old Jordan Dubois, was not with the family, which was returning from a taekwondo tournament in Yorkton when the crash happened.

He has vowed to care for his brothers and take over his father's courier business.

A funeral for Brenda and Marcel is set for Saturday.

Goodchild, an instructor at the taekwondo club where the four younger brothers take classes, said the tragic story has touched people across the globe.

"We've been contacted from people overseas wanting to make donations, so we set up a way that they could do wire transfers through Scotiabank," she said.
