A 19-year-old man from Quebec has been arrested in connection with a credit card fraud case in Brandon, Man., while police in the western Manitoba city have an arrest warrant out for another man.

The pair is accused of using stolen credit cards to buy $28,684 worth of diamond rings, iPads, Apple Watches and other merchandise at several shops inside Brandon Shoppers Mall on April 9.

The Brandon Police Service originally described one of the suspects as a "good-looking" man who had his hair pulled back into a bun, and the other as a man wearing a brown leather jacket and a "big belt buckle."

On Friday, police announced that one of the men was arrested following an incident involving stolen credit cards at a Winnipeg shopping mall on April 12. He remains in custody.

Police and prosecutors in Winnipeg worked with the Brandon Police Service to bring charges against the man in connection with the Shoppers Mall case, police said in a release.

The next day, Brandon police received a call from the Saskatoon Police Service about a man matching the description of the other suspect in the Shoppers Mall case.

The man had used a counterfeit credit card to check into a hotel and make "several other transactions in Saskatoon" and was arrested there, according to police.

However, the man was released from custody in Saskatoon, on a promise to appear in court at a later date, before the charges related to the Brandon case could be forwarded, according to police.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the man, who, like the other suspect, is 19 years old and originally from Quebec.

A police spokesperson would not say which man was arrested in Winnipeg man and which man was arrested in Saskatoon.
