Canada student loan breach victims want apology

People affected by the Canada Student Loan Privacy Breach would like the government to say"sorry."

The federal government revealed earlier this month that a portable hard drive containing personal information about 583,000 Canadianswho were clients of the Canada Student Loans program from 2000 to 2006 was lost.

The information on the missing hard drive includednames, social insurance numbers, dates of birth, contact information and loan balance of Canada Student Loan borrowers, as well as personal contact information for 250 Human Resources and Skills Development Canada employees.

This week, a letter from the government was received by many of those victims of the breach. The letter offers victims tips and a free monitoring service to safeguard credit files.

What it's missing, says Winnipegger Amy Chegus, is a simple apology.

While she continues to wait for that, shehas joined a class action lawsuit.
