Take Pride Winnipeg hoping to clean up citys worst streets, neighbourhoods

A local charity has rated Winnipegs dirtiest neighbourhoods, and the citys northwest corner tops the list.

Take Pride Winnipeg released their 2013 litter index on Thursday, giving the citys northern half high litter scores.

The index rates neighbourhoods and streets on a one to four scale representing no litter to very littered.

The northwest got a score of 2.85, and Winnipegs north-central areas got a score of 2.35.

Rounding out the top five were the citys northeast, Transcona and the West End.

Streets that are sorely in need of a cleanup include Oak Point Highway, the Perimeter Highway, Chief Peguis Trail, Lagimodiere and Flight Road.

The survey was done between April 25 to May 3. Take Pride Winnipeg is now planning a major campaign called Team Up Clean Up to tackle the litter problem in the city.

Post-campaign results are expected to be released once the clean-up is over.
