The impact of the climate on our changing planet is one of the most pressing stories of our time. How should the media talk about climate change?

On April 21, CBCNewsbroughtthe conversation around climate change to high school students across the country in a virtual event, CBC Asks: How Should Media Talk About Climate Change?

Hosted by CBC Radio What on Earth's Laura Lynch, the panel featured:

  • Anand Ram, a Senior Producer with CBC News responsible for climate change, health and science coverage;

  • Johanna Wagstaffe, broadcast meteorologist and science reporter for CBC News Network and CBC Vancouver; and

  • Avneet Dhillon, a multi-platform journalist with CBC News based in Toronto.

Over 50 high schools across Canada participated in the event. Students hadthe opportunity to engage directly with CBC journalists about the role and responsibility of media in climate change coverage, holding powers to account and the global interconnectedness of climate storytelling.

The conversation wasgeared to Grade 11 and 12 students and supported curriculum learning objectives in world issues, media, science, social and environment studies and citizenship.
