Kultivation Festival (Aug. 19-25) is a chance to put the spotlight on the incredible art, food, music, dance and education coming out of Manitoba's Filipino community. Here are the top five reasons why you should make a point of checking out Kultivation this year.

CBC is proud to be a sponsor of this fun and important week of cultural events.

1. The Music

Music is an integral part of Filipino life that brings fun and good times, from singing at karaoke, to DJs and live performances. Experience music in all forms at Kultivation Festival this year, including live performances with the Bahay Kubo sessions (Aug. 22), This is me, an interactive musical experience (Aug. 23), Nubounce X Butta (Aug. 23), and Sa Amin, a night of House DJs (Aug 24).

2. The Food

Filipinos love food and wouldn't let you leave the party without eating. This year's festival has something for everyone by some of Winnipeg's finest chefs and cooks. There will be special dessert creations, from local restaurants and bakeries like Food Network's Sugar Blooms and Cakes, Ube Pandan Cake, Cakeology, Turon Kouign Amann, and Basta at the Forks, to name a few. Enjoy one of the pop up dinners such as "Lasapin" 6 courses from 6 chefs at Charlees Restaurant (Aug. 19), Filipinx Fusion 3: Mango unchained at Saddlery on Market (Aug. 25) and RnbEats at Little Brown Jug (Aug 25).

3. The Art

The second annual "Seremonya" is an all FilipinX Art exhibition. Featuring artists from across the province, and run by an all FilipinX team, this show is Kultivations 2nd year of the Art Exhibition. Aug 23-25 at Platform Centre for Photographic & Digital Arts, 100 Arthur St. Also check out Lupa Ay Buhay: Land is Life, an exhibition of diverse Filipino Indigenous crafts running until Aug 28 at the Manitoba Craft Museum, C2 Centre 329 Cumberland Ave #1.

4. The Shopping

Kultivate Makers Market is the annual craft market composed of all Filipino makers crafts. Located on the 2nd floor event room at the Forks. It will include a preview of the Mabuhay District open house and various workshops. Aug 24-25 from 12pm to 4pm.

5. The Film
