So, tell us Rosie...

Why do you love taking photos?I remember a precise moment when I was about 13, during a family road trip, how I wished I had a way to capture the scenery and imprint it in my memory forever. Now, having my own four boys, I pick up my camera on a daily basis and print books and images for them so they can treasure these momentsforever. I hope my pictures instill them witha love for nature and adventure.

Which photos are your favourites? Instagram is a collection of ALL my favorite images! But here are a few that show where my love lies...

Me on a paddleboard during a stunning Manitoba sunset. What could be better really? (Rosie Haberl)
My 3 oldest boys after getting the best haircuts of their lives. They're totally not into getting their picture taken, but I love it! (Rosie Haberl)
"Over the hill and through the woods." The road leading to my favourite place on earth: our family property in Austin. The light in this particular spot is always heavenly! (Rosie Haberl)
Coffee at the lake from my favourite getaway ever with my husband to Falcon Trails Resort. Give me a secluded cabin over a crowded Caribbean beach any day. (Rosie Haberl)
A truck full of dahlias! What a dream it was to shoot my friend's (@farmgirlsk) dahlia harvest this summer. (Rosie Haberl)

Where are your three favourite places to shoot?

  • Austin, Manitoba Our family's recreational property in the rolling hills just south of Austin. The piece of land has been in my family for many years and has a special place in our hearts.
  • Riding Mountain National Park It's one of Manitoba's prettiest spots filled with lakes, hills, wildlife and so many fun adventures to do with the family. Good friends of ours own the Lakehouse in Wasagaming so that's our favorite spot to hang out and enjoy family time!
  • The Pacific Northwest A little shout out to my Seattle born and raised husband; the Pacific Northwest has some unparalleled beauty. Every year we drive out with our boys and this has to be one of my favourite times to document with my camera!

To selfie or not to selfie?Yes! But mostly when it includes me with one of my boys or hubby (is that a selfie?)An occasional selfie while doing something you love never hurt anyone.

Who are your favourite follows on Instagram? @alexstrohl gives me an insane amount of wanderlust.

What's your secret?! Can you share some advice on how to take an epic photo? My style is usually sitting back, taking in the scene around me, finding the most uncluttered angles and creative crops and then simply taking your time. Don't rush! And don't "spray & pray". One good image is way better then 100 mediocre images.

What do you think makes a memorable photograph? Images of people connecting with nature and each other. Raw, non-posed emotions.

What story do you want your photos to tell? To not take life for granted. Get out, explore, seek beauty in things around you, capture moments that your kids will treasure for a lifetime.
